The Whistling Coon

Performed by George W. Johnson who was the first African American recording star on the phonograph. The song is horrifically racist, but historically important.

Good Afternoon Mr. Jenkins

A Broadway number by Williams and Walker, two stars of the vaudeville stage at the turn of the 20th century. They are among the earliest African American singers and musicians to be recorded, and possibly the earliest to be recorded for a phonograph record.

TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia)

TSOP by MFSB. The classic theme of Soul Train. Created, produced, and hosted by Don Cornelius who died today of self inflicted gunshot. It's a lousy way to begin Black History Month, but it's a good excuse to play this classic soul/disco hybrid.
